It happened a week ago (Sunday 28 August). The communities of the Hlabisa Mission gathered as planned for their "isivuno". It is a special day when all the communities gather at the Cathedral bringing their financial contribution to support a special project.
The Mass was presided by the Bishop and concelebrated by the two priests: Fr Mandla Msweli (priest-in-charge) and Fr Phoseka who was in charge of the sermon.
After Mass came the time for the "isivuno". It had three moments. First the different groups of the Mission (chldren of Mary, catechesis, St Anne, Sacred Heart, St John's ...). Then the teachers, nurses, those self employed and others. Finally the different communities: St Michael's, St Gabriel's, Good Shepherd... They were all dancing and singing.
The Parish Council had set a very high target and they practically reached it. This is a special year. This is the year for the Mission of Hlabisa to present their contribution to the Vicariate at the next Vicariate Pilgrimage to Ingwavuma (18 September 2011). For the first time, this contribution will not go to support the ordinary work of the Vicariate but will be dedicated to develop the place of the pilgrimage.
On Sunday there was a special joy in everyone and one could not avoid remembering St Paul's words to the Corinthians: "Each one should give as much as he has decided on hs own initiavte, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9,7).
