Last 20 April 2010, Saturday, we celebrated the first meeting of the new "Diocesan Pastoral Council" (DPC) at Jozini.
During 2009 each community and Mission was asked to celebrate the election of the local and Mission councils (PPC) so that they could then send their delegates to the DPC.
Being the first meeting we spent the day reflecting on what we are called to be and to do. We started reflecting in groups on the text of the multiplication of the loaves and asking ourselves how the text help us understand our service. The sharing was great. We spoke about the need to feel for those who are like sheep without a shepherd and to commit ourselves to their service. We saw how important each one of us is and the need of listening to each other and working together sharing the different gifts that God has given each one of us.
The second part of the meeting was dedicated to study the Constitutions of the DPC which were signed by Bishop Michael O'Shea in 1991. Reading them we saw the need of making some changes. At present, the Bishop, the Vicar General, a priest representing the priests, a sister representing the sisters, the chairperson of each Mission and delegates from some groups are members of the DPC.
We would like each group to be represented at the DPC. The Bishop was then entrusted with the task of making the list of them all and contacting their leadership inviting them to the next meeting.
Finally we chose the new executive of the DPC (in the picture above, with the Bishop and the Vicar General). Mr Lawrence Mkhaliphi was reelected as chairperson and Mr Vincent Dlamini was elected vice chairperson (both from Mtubatuba Mission).
