This short article is written on behalf of the Servites students both studying in Kenya and Uganda.
It was our great joy when we arrived on the 24th of May 2011 and we were happy to be back to the Vicariate Apostolic for summer holidays.
From King Shaka International Airport, we went straight to Mtubatuba Mission (Riverview) where we spent only one night and we moved to the Servite house the following day. We spent few days there with our Provincial's Delegate, Fr. Mel Loftus. We all enjoyed those first few days at the Servite house before going to our various homes for a three-week holiday.
After our holidays at home, we were then assigned to different houses: one at Star of the Sea Mission, one at Riverview and three at the Servite house.
From the 4th to the 8th of July 2011, we had an annual retreat together with all the Servites friars in the Vicariate except Frs. Declan, Mafanisa and Thulani who were not able to attend due to various reasons. This was another great experience for all of us!
We were also very happy to be part of the vocation seminar which took place at Star of the Sea Centre from the 12th to the 15th of July 2011. This was also another enjoyable time where we had a chance of interacting with our brothers, the Diocesan seminarians studying at St John Vianney (Pretoria). We also had a chance of sharing our vocation experiences with young men who attended that seminar and we hope that those experiences will help those young men to discern what God wants them to do.
From the 03th to the 8th of August 2011, we were all gathered at Star of the Sea Mission with our Vocation Director, Fr. Thulani Ntsele and other community members. Our stay there was concluded by the ‘braai' on the 07th of August (Sunday evening) and we were privileged to share it with our Bishop Jose Luis and his visitor, Fr Cristián, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary of ordination this year (once again, we say congratulations to them!). We also shared this ‘braai' with the FCSCJ sisters residing there at Star.
We then left Star on the 8th of August 2011 for our various destinations (Uganda and Kenya). We had a great holiday in the Vicariate and we are missing it already! We will be beginning our new academic year from Monday, the 15th of August 2011 and we ask for your prayers!
